Ringing in the New Year with Art to the Face
Welcome to the Art-to-the-Face Sketchbook for the end of 2024! Yeah, you’re probably getting this in 2025—what can I say? Time is a flat circle, and deadlines are just suggestions, correct?
Reflecting on the past year, I’ve realized something: the older you get, the less you sweat the small stuff. You stop obsessing over what might happen or what’s happening in the big, messy world, and you start focusing on what’s right in front of you. And if there’s one piece of advice I could pass on to anyone younger—or just feeling lost—it’s this: Look up. Pay attention to the people and the moments before you, not just what’s on your screen.

Now, don’t get me wrong—technology is incredible. The fact that I can share this with you, no matter where you are, and that you can read it on your phone, tablet, or whatever futuristic gadget you’ve got is nothing short of a miracle. I’m not knocking it. But there’s a difference between connecting with the world and getting lost.
When it comes to worrying about the future or the state of the world, I like to fall back on the idea of our sphere of influence. It’s simple: you can only do so much. Your voice only carries so far. Your hands can only build so much. But here’s the kicker—art doesn’t have those limitations. It can cut through time and space, connecting us across ages and miles. Maybe you’re reading this years from now or from a place I’ve never heard of. That’s the magic of creating—it transcends.
Looking ahead, my goal for 2025 is simple: go bigger. I want to create more ambitious projects, connect with more of you, and keep pushing myself as an artist. The last few years have been a whirlwind of challenges and chaos, but they’re behind me now. I’m ready to focus on what I do best: making art that punches you in the face (metaphorically).

But enough about me—what about you? What’s your big goal for the new year? What are you building, creating, or dreaming up? I’d love to hear about it. Call me anytime at fwacata@gmail.com or through the form on fwacata.com. You can also catch me on Instagram (@FWACATA), where I post updates, new projects, and sneak peeks at what’s coming next.

Speaking of projects, keep an eye out for new work like TANX, H00D, and the long-awaited third issue of the Fuckanthology. Hopefully, the fourth isn’t far behind!
So, as we charge into 2025, here’s my parting thought: enjoy what’s in front of you. The world is chaotic, sure, but the good stuff is right here. Your friends, your family, your passions—soak it all in. And while you’re at it, make something unforgettable.
Thanks for sticking with me on this wild ride. Let’s make this year one for the books (or the zines).
