HEY FOLKS!
Last Thursday I couldn’t get the time to get in here and do an update or an update that was worth a damn, since like I run a comic shop too, and we have had so many development (All Good, one bad, so meh) that I had to tend to that fire. THATS COMICS FOR YOU!
OY VEY this pose is shite.
ON THE OUTLINE
So the idea is to bring BAD GIRL comics back, the infamous 90's theme of sexy girls, supernatural violence, boobs, and such. It's silly, I know, but I wanted to mess around in a genre I never really delved into and give some heart to it. Mix some Outlaw Comics grittiness and Cyberpunk goodness, and I can really get into it.
I'm working this off of my Magic City series, which has VIGIL and other books I'm working a part of it. I'm not interested in making some world or mythos, but if there were a bonding element to my stories, I would do Miami-based books and ideas for people to understand and explore.
(NOTE: There is an unfinished novel I worked with that title that may relate to it all, but don't hold your breath. I'm ridiculous with projects as is. I don't if a novel would happen anytime soon)
So on Manslaughter, I did an outline, and one thing I did was go hacking into what I wrote out in the beginning. So now that I've spewed this out, time to make it make sense!
OUTLINE THE STORY:
Small Mention of the MAGIC CITY, the warping for what we know as reality. Maybe a two-page spread starting from the credits page of dolls being made.
Bodies on hooks (Both male and female?) describing the world as it opens while we talk about the idea of what love is. We open with new super synthetic companion dolls coming into the market.
Being bought for crazy money but can walk and talk and such.
One such "doll" is purchased by one lonely fat slob of a hacker named Charlie Decker,
Who treats her well, almost like a real girlfriend taking her on dates and such.
Wishing she was honest, give him hope.
He is also dealing in many Black market deals, Black Ops and Occultists, behind the scenes.
In one of those, he finds a way through certain magic to bring her to life via the Golem and "God's Breath."
This is the first eight pages of the breakdown, and so I started tackling these bits in the sketchbook, laying out the pages:
I wanted a HOT opening (PHRASING!) and decided to open on a big pair of breasts. Okay, I can hear you slapping your head to this form where I'm sitting, but stay with me here! I do this to sort shock the reader and prepare them for what is coming. I loved how in SAGA they showed you in the first pages of issue one they showed you this image of childbirth, head on! It's a very visceral, honest, beautiful, controversial image, and let you know from the get-go, this is THAT book.
Moving into the purchasing of MANSLAUGHTER (which I shortened to MS in the notebook (I know, shit name)) and the intro of CHARLIE DECKER, the owner of the sex doll that would become the main character
I'm still waiting on the final version of the character, but as I'm going into the story definitely getting a better look at him and his overall look. So this is definitely not the final look. I also designed the Salesman and fleshed out more of his world:
Oh, by the way; Man-Buns are fucking dumb. That is all. ( I have long hair I can say that)
I worked out dialogue and the beginning page; I'm just trying to figure it I do a sizeable crazy opening for the character, then have MANSLAUGHTER think back to here origins and open than with this? I mean, I dig it, but is that fucking hack? I want to grab people in these first pages like this is where I'm making the reader, you know?
I also started working on one of the weirder characters, MANIFISTO!
MANEFISTO? MANIFISTO? Not sure yet!
LIKE manifesto, but with FISTS, he enforces a dark Illuminati-like group in the series. Again as this spans MAGIC CITY as a universe, these may become them later on in the series for others. I'm working more about him later during layouts, and its call gets a life as I go.
I may plan to go live one night either on INSTAGRAM and show some of what I'm doing or on Youtube, for people to see more once I get down into it.
Comic people, it's all about the comics!
Also if you dug the title of this entry I made a shirt for it!
IF COMICS WERE EASY, IT WOULD BE CALLED YOUR MOM! Rocking this, I don't know if this design should be a shirt or a FLAG. GET IT HERE
